NACS Online Privacy Policy

National Association of College Stores (NACS) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy sets forth how we handle information we obtain from you and learn about you when you visit our web sites at http://www.nacs.org, http://www.camex.org, and http://www.collegiateresearch.org, including:
  1. NOTICE: Information We Collect and How We Use It
NACS collects two types of information about you when you visit our site: personal information (including, by way of example only, your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address) and non-personal, aggregate information (such as information regarding the pages on our site that you have visited and your IP address).
    1. Personally Identifiable Information
The only personally identifying information that we collect and store about you is the information that you choose to provide to us upon application for membership, registration for conferences or events and upon ordering merchandise from the NACS Store.
      1. Registration and Application Forms and Order Forms

Our registration and application forms and order forms require that you provide personal information (like your name and physical address) and certain financial information (like a credit card or checking account number). This information is used to get in touch with you, to process your membership or registration form and to process your order. We also will use this information to contact you about the membership services we offer, as well as to send you site and membership announcement updates.

      2. Electronic Mail

We also will gather your personally identifiable information when you send us an e-mail. We will use this information to respond to your e-mail. We also may use the information to send you notifications about our service.

    2. Non-Personally Identifiable Information

We collect and use non-personally identifiable information about you in the following ways:

      1. Referrers, IP Addresses and Other Non-Personal Information

NACS collects information through "referrers," IP addresses and various environmental variables. A "referrer" is information the web browser passes along to the NACS web server that references the URL from which you came. The "IP address" is a number used by computers on the network to identify your computer so that data can be transmitted to you. "Environmental variables" include, among other things, the domain from which you access the Internet, the time you accessed our web site, the type of web browser and operating system or platform used, the Internet address of the web site you left to visit NACS, the names of the pages you visit while at our web site and the Internet address of the web site you then visit. We collect all of this information to allow us to detect broad demographic trends, to provide information tailored to your interests and to enhance your experience on NACS' web site.

      2. Profiling

To help us improve our web site and to ensure that we make every effort to provide you with information and offers that are of interest to you, we may merge your personally identifiable information with click-stream data and other data we have (including offline data). We will provide notice of this, as well as an opportunity to opt-out of it, at the time and place of information collection and before data is entered into our system. We may also develop a non-identifiable profile on you based on the pages within our site that you visit.

In addition, we may allow third party ads to appear on our site. If we do so, our advertisers and our network advertising companies may, through the use of cookies or other technology, collect non-personally identifiable information about you. Over time, they may be able to develop a profile on you based on your visits not only to our site, but to other sites as well.

    3. Sharing Your Information With Third Parties

We may share your personally identifiable information (such as you name, address, e-mail address and telephone number) with select third parties including our agents, advertisers and outside shipping companies or other third parties that offer products and/or services that we think may be of interest to you. If you contact us with an inquiry, we may share your personally identifiable information with vendors and other third parties for purposes of responding to your inquiry. We also may share your information with third parties that help us manage our databases.

We use an outside shipping company to ship orders and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. In some instances, we may place an order on your behalf directly with the manufacturer, which will, on its own or through a shipping company, ship your order directly to you. If you order from us, we will share your personally identifiable information with these companies to fulfill your order. (If we place your order directly with the manufacturer, it may share your personally identifiable information with an outside shipping company to fulfill your order.) We will not transfer your financial information (such as credit card numbers and checking account numbers) to third parties without your affirmative consent.

    4. Links

This web site may contain links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that they visit. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected when you visit NACS' web site.

    5. Notification of Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will notify you and post those changes on our web site so you will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under circumstances we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify you by way of an e-mail. You will then have a choice as to whether or not we use your information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy in effect at the time that the information was collected.

    6. Special Policy Regarding Information from Children Under Thirteen

NACS is not targeted to children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly request personally identifiable information from any child under the age of 13 without parental consent. When we do receive such information, we delete it as soon as we discover it and do not use it or share it with third parties.

  2. CHOICE
NACS provides the following choices regarding the use of your information.
    • You may choose not to provide us with any contact information. However, if you do so, we will be unable to process your membership application and you will not be able to access many parts of the NACS web site.
